Your Invitation to Mission Chapter Toastmasters’ May 27, 2014 Meeting
The theme of this week’s meeting is “Summer Fun.” Bring a guest, or here is your invitation to come as a guest (no need to RSVP, just show up). Guests can invite guests too. Here is the link for location and time. Toastmaster: Mary Jo Joke: Azim Speaking Tip: Dave Speakers: Wayne, Christine, Grace Table Topics: Guille General Evaluator: Ron Evaluators: Dave, Azim, Sol Word of the Day: Larry Rooney: Stephanie Awardmaster: Cindy —– May 20, 2014 Meeting Notes The theme of the meeting was “Heroes.” Lili was our Presiding Officer; there were 13 people at the meeting, including returning guest (and Table Topics Star!) Victoria. Toastmaster was Sol Speaking tip – Wayne provided the advice that weaving a story into a speech (even if the story is not true) is a great way to keep the audiences attention and make the speech more memorable. The Word of the Day from Guille was a tough one! “Ineffable” means too great, powerful or beautiful to be described. As the Ah-counter, Stephanie kept track of our verbal missteps. Speakers: Larry’s speech, “To Baja or Not to Baja,” described his visit to Baja California, including an overview of Baja geography and points of interest, including the opportunity to pet (and even kiss!) grey whales. Lili told us “How to Get rid of Suckers”– plants, not people! She talked about steps she is taking to preserve plants that she wants during our drought, and remove those that suck up water. Azim gave us some insight into alternative personal care products in his speech, “Revealing My Secret.” After having an allergic reaction to the chemicals in deodorant, he found a way to make his own. Stephanie’s Rooney noted that drivers of certain types of cars (BMWs) seem to be consistently more aggressive than other drivers. Awardmaster was Mary Jo: Azim took the Best Speaker prize for his speech about making his own deodorant. Mother/daughter team Guille & Victoria won the Table Topics award for their descriptions of what a “super child” and a “super mom” would be like. Cindy was awarded Best Evaluator for her evaluation of Azim’s speech. Christine let us know that Toastmasters will have a table set up at the Third Annual Block Party and Caring and Sharing Event at the Calle Real Shopping Center on May 31. We need volunteers to staff the table from Noon to 3 p.m.
