June 3, 2014 Meeting Notes
The theme of the meeting was “Technology.” Mary Jo was our Presiding Officer; there were 7 people at the meeting, including guest Liz.
Jokemaster Larry shared an amusing story about Bill Gates in heaven.
Cindy’s speech, “It’s All About You,” provided some compelling reasons for exercise beyond just weight loss, and issued a 30 day exercise challenge to the club.
Dave described the tricky challenge that adult children face as their parents get older in his speech, “Old People Driving.” Dave talked about how difficult it was to have that discussion with his own father, and the steps he eventually had to take to have his father give up driving.
Mary Jo gave her first speech from the Professional Speaker manual, part one of a two part speech titled “Keynote Address – California Association of Personal Trainers.” Mary Jo was so convincing that even club members that have known her for years thought they were just now finding out about a “secret side” of Mary Jo!
Larry led a table topics discussion to find out about our opinions, challenges and views of the future of technology.
Ron was the General Evaluator for the evening, as well as one of the evaluators, along with Larry and Christine.
The Word of the Day was “Embroil.”
Cindy’s Rooney talked about those annoying robocalls that we receive leading up to elections, and wondered why on Earth political candidates think that annoying us is an effective means of communication!
Mary Jo was the Awardmaster:
Cindy received the Best Speaker for her speech, “It’s All About You.”
Best Evaluator went to Ron for his evaluation of Dave’s speech.
Mary Jo won the Best Table Topics award for her description of a technology-induced emotional crisis at the local Kinko’s.Announcements – Christine & Mary Jo manned the Toastmaster’s Table during the annual Sharing and Caring event at Calle Real last Saturday.
