November 4, 2014 Meeting Notes
The theme of the meeting was “Choose.”  Mary Jo was the Presiding Officer. There were 11 at the meeting including guests Suzanne and Eric.

Toastmaster: Ron
Joke: Larry shared a joke about an unlikely meeting at the Pearly Gates.

Speakers:
Himani opened her Ice Breaker speech, “My Life, Choices I Made,” helping club members understand how to pronounce her name correctly! Himani talked about growing up in India, sharing information about its language, culture and geography. Himani talked about her life over the last decade and how her choices have shaped her life: getting married, having a daughter, moving to the U.S., moving back to India, and eventually returning to the U.S.

Alyce’s speech, “What is Retrograde Mercury?” gave the club a bit of an Astronomy lesson, educating us about the planet Mercury and how periodic changes in its orbit seems to have a negative impact us on Earth. When Mercury is in retrograde, it is considered unwise to make major purchases, travel plans, and other significant decisions, and Alyce cited specific examples of how retrograde Mercury seems to have impacted her in the past.  Mercury is expected to be in retrograde again on January 21 and February 11 so beware!

Liz’s speech, “Chinese 5 Elements Emotional Processing,” explained the Chinese 5 element meridian system, and how it can help us address and overcome negative emotions and problems. Liz provided the club with a handout about and  led the audience through the 5 elements of the meridian system so we could practice this on our own.

Word of the Day: Mary Jo gave us indecisive.

Awardmaster was Eric, awards went to:
Mary Jo for Best Table Topics for her touching description of  time spent with her mother prior to her mother’s passing.
