April 21, 2015 Meeting Notes
The theme of our 1,799th meeting was “Earth Day.”  Mary Jo was the presiding officer, there were 13 people at the meeting including guest Claudia and our newest member Laura!
Toastmaster: Mary Jo
Christine’s Word of the Day washalcyon,” which means calm, peaceful, happy, golden, prosperous, affluent
Ron’s Speaking Tip reminded us not to panic when you realize that you must present a Toastmaster’s speech on short notice (or if you remember this the night before the meeting!). You don’t need to spend a lot of time planning the speech, keep 3×5 cards handy at work and at home, and keep notes on what’s happening. When it comes time to deliver a speech with little time to prepare, you can simply speak about some experience. Everyone has something to talk about.
– Cindy’s speech,No Frills Airlines” related some examples of airlines’ continuing attempt to nickel & dime passengers and make the travel experience more painful and expensive than it needs to be.
 – In Ron’s speech, “Making Change,” he told the club about the challenges and benefits of his recent job change. Ron left a very comfortable position in a company where he’d worked for 11 years to take on a new role in a new company. While the change has been uncomfortable, Ron is learning new things and having experiences that he would not have had at the old company.
 – Larry took on personal hygiene in his speech, “Odor Nazis.” Larry has found that as we age, we smell differently, and not always better. But, when you try to address this issue, people complain about allergies and sensitivity to lotions, perfumes/colognes, etc. You just can’t win…
Best Speaker went to Larry for his speech about “Odor Nazis.”
Azim won Best Evaluator for his evaluation of Ron’s speech.
Best Table Topics went to Lili for her comments about things that she saw at the Earth Day festival, including astroturf with the little rubber bits in it.
In her Rooney, Grace’s wondered why some medical professionals feel the need to tell you they found some anomaly on a test – mammogram, colonoscopy, sonogram, etc. Then make you wait another 3 weeks to find out what it is, causing (sometimes) unnecessary worry or stress.Notes:

Mission Chapter will be celebrating its 36th anniversary at the May 5 meeting.  We will have guest speakers, and food and drinks will be provided.

Wayne figured out how many meetings Mission Chapter has had since its inception since April 1979 – 1799 meetings!!
