April 28, 2015 Meeting NotesThe theme of our 1,800th meeting was “The Magic Words.” Wayne was the presiding officer, there were 11 people including our Area Governor Martina and guest Annie.Toastmaster: GraceWord of the Day: Fred gave us fantastic.Larry’s speaking tip reminded us that most important parts of a speech are the beginning and the end. You want a strong beginning gets the audience’s attention and compels them to listen to you, and a strong finish so they remember what you said. Even silence is a great beginning, do something dramatic at the beginning.—–Speakers:
In her speech, “Touch for Health,” Liz shared stress relief practices from John Thie’s book by the same name.
Alyce‘s speech, “Consequences of Our Choices ,” used a parable to illustrate the impact that our choices have on our lives.
In the speech, “Sun and Sand,” Christine shared what she has learned about harbor seals since she moved to Carp last year.
The award for best Table Topics went to our guest, Annie.
The Best Evaluator award went to Martina for her evaluation of Christine’s speech.
Alyce won Best Speaker for her speech, “Consequences of our Choices.”
In this week’s Rooney, Christine expressed her despair over overused words such as thought leader, synergy and leverage that have ambiguous meanings.
