___________________________________July 12, 2016 Meeting Notes The theme of the meeting was Trump or No Trump“. Cindy was the presiding officer, there were 13 people at the meeting. Toastmaster: Robert Word of the Day: Fred – Obstreperous: unruly difficult and stubborn. Speakers: In his speech, “Body Noise.” Larry took on a sensitive, and often embarrassing such as snoring and loud sneezes, topic: unintended noises made by our bodies, and how these noises often become more difficult to control as we get older. Larry provided several very creative and humorous tools that we could purchase (for just $19.95!) to muffle these noises and avoid embarrassment!Jon gave the club the benefit of his experiences as a program manager to offer some excellent leadership tips that can apply in a work environment, as well as in leadership positions in clubs and other organizations. Giving public praise to reinforce self-esteem, providing suggestions and support for improvement in private, and providing clear communications and direction (particularly during times of change) are critical skills that everyone should remember! In her inspirational speech, “The Impossible Dream,” Hiba described her departure from war-torn Lebanon, when she arrived in Canada with just $300 in her pocket and a dream to live in the U.S. Hiba recently returned from a visit to Lebanon, landing in the U.S. – now her home – on the 25th anniversary of her original arrival in Canada. Hiba has worked hard and has become a successful businesswoman living in our beautiful town!
Best Speaker: Larry for his speech, “Body Noises.”
Best Evaluator: Ron for his evaluation of Jon’s speech
Best Table Topic: Cedar for her story of how the Brexit vote saved her from having to discuss the state of the American Presidential election during her recent visit to Ireland.
