October 11, 2016 Meeting Notes
The theme of the meeting was Columbus.
Cindy was the presiding officer. There were 17 people at the meeting.
Word of the Day: Cindy – Chimerical: wildly fanciful, highly unrealistic.
Grace’s speech, “What Is Leadership and How Do I Get It?” was an interactive discussion with the audience about their perceptions of what leadership is and if they feel they have leadership abilities.
Wayne’s touching speech, “My Dog Haley,” described Wayne’s adoption of his black lab mix, Haley, and their time together. Sadly, Haley was hit by a car over Labor Day weekend, and her injuries were not treatable.
Brett gave the club some excellent advice about online security in his speech, “Don’t Be Fooled.” Brett informed us that October is cyber-security month, and gave us useful tips about how to be secure online: be wary of calls from strangers claiming to be computer support technicians; use a “pass phrase” rather than just a password, or use a password manager; and take advantage of 2-factor authentication available from many banks to protect account access.
Best Speaker: Wayne for his speech, “My Dog Haley.”
Best Evaluator: Julia for her evaluation of Brett’s speech.
Best Table Topic: Aaron for his description of an upcoming weekend trip to Washington, DC.
