February 7th, 2017 Meeting Notes
The theme of the meeting was Change.
Cindy was the presiding officer. There were 15 people at the meeting, including new member Taylor, guests Nikki, Carolyn and Steve, and returning guest Rob.
Robert’s speech, “Washington Versus Trump,” discussed the current court challenge by a judge in Washington State to Trump’s Executive Order banning immigrants from seven Middle Eastern countries. The case is being reviewed by judges from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Robert, who is an attorney, explained the judicial process to help the club understand the next steps in the case.
Taylor gave his Ice Breaker speech!! In his speech, Why I Don’t like Poison Oak,” Taylor related some unfortunate experiences he’s had with the plant, including an infection that could have become quite dangerous had he not gotten medical treatment.
Rob also gave his Ice Breaker speech!! Rob shared a bit of information about his life, he is a Santa Barbara native, and his job – which is why he is at Toastmasters. Rob’s role requires him to give frequent briefings to managers in his company, and he came to Toastmasters to help him hone his speaking and presentation skills.
• Best Speaker: Rob, for his Ice Breaker speech!
• Best Evaluator: Jon, for his evaluation of Robert’s speech
• Best Table Topic: Steve, for his description of a physical and mental transformation that led to a significant weight loss and a new career!
