June 13, 2017 Meeting Notes

The theme of the meeting was “Goals,” Cindy was the presiding officer. There were 14 people at the meeting.

Toastmaster: Larry

Speakers:

Steve’s speech, “My Football Story,” described his move to Santa Barbara from Santa Ynez when he was in high school. Steve was recruited to play football, and worked out like crazy to do well. Sadly, an unfortunate ATV accident derailed his plans for a few months but he recovered and went on to play very well!
In his speech “Oh No, Not Another One,” Wayne shared his concerns about proposed changes to taxes, and what that will mean to those of us that aren’t millionaires.
Jon’s speech, “Introduction to Restorative Court,” was the third in a series of speeches that Jon has put together to educate clubmembers on how the city handles issues with those in the population with drug/alcohol issues, and often have mental problems and are homeless.

The theme of the meeting was “Establish Justice,” Cindy was the presiding officer. There were 12 people at the meeting.

Speakers:

Mark’s Ice Breaker speech, “The Meaning of Life,” talked about how we are all connected, and things often come full circle.

In “Travel ‘Pause’ Part 2,” Robert gave us an update on the legal process surrounding Trump’s proposed travel ban.

Steve’s speech, “Healthy Life,” gave the club advice on setting and keeping habits that lead to a health life – take 100% responsibility for your life, set goals for your life and lifestyle, and visualize what you want to be.

Best Speaker went to Steve

Best Evaluator was Jen, for her evaluation of Steve’s speech

Best Table Topics was awarded to Norma, who shared her love of karaoke with the club!

May 30, 2017 Meeting Notes

The theme of the meeting was “Summer Fun,” Cindy was the presiding officer. The meeting was unusually, and pleasantly, musical, with cameos from Larry, Mark and Janna! There were 16 people at the meeting including guests Meg and our Area Director David.

Speechs;
Larry’s speech, “Summertime Childhood” started out with a song as Larry shared summertime experiences from his childhood, including hours in a swimming pool and developing leather feet from running around in bare feet with his friends.

Kristina shared the joys on transpacific travel in her speech “The OTHER Type of Fun.” Kristina had an amazing trip to Thailand, where she and her daughter had a great time eating their way through the country! Unfortunately, airline food proved to be more of a challenge for both, making for an exceptionally long trip home.

Christine gave “A Roast of a Different Kind,” presenting a very funny “roast” of club President Cindy.

Best Evaluator was Julia, for her excellent evaluation of Kristina’s speech
Best Table Topics was awarded to Janna, who shared her beautiful voice with the club in a duet with Table Topics Master Mark!
